B103.1 - FAMMMIT/Bels vs Virginia Tech MBA Curriculum - ALIGNED
The Curriculum for a Master’s in Business Administration (an MBA) lays out a simple list of subjects which make for a good Business Framework for conversation purposes .
An MBA is typically a 2 year post-graduate degree.

Trying to walk a Self-Employed Path WITH the theory taught in an MBA Program creates great challenges too...
An MBA is typically a 2 year post-graduate degree.
- These days an MBA could cost $30,000 to 80,000 per year for the core curriculum plus books, room and board.
- The time and financial investment of a four year undergraduate degree is a prerequisite along with some basic science, math and liberal arts courses.
- If you have not taken the time or invested the money in an MBA, the information in this guide might make for a good poor man's, functional MBA. But remember, it will only be worth what you put into it.
Trying to walk a Self-Employed Path WITHOUT the theory taught in an MBA Program creates great challenges...
- Without an MBA or undergraduate study in Business, most don't have enough structure in all facets of business to create a useful model for themselves, creating problems that are "nothing-burgers" with some basic education.
- In many ways the subjects related to business are very soft and overlapping, similar to topics like Psychology, Sociology and Art. So, without some baseline training and categorization, it can all seem like one big bowl of soup to an un-initiated one.
- It is impossible to recognize traps that you do not have prior experience with theoretically or in real life. That’s why they are called traps. We all have a hard enough time avoiding the ones we know about, much less the ones we have no clue about, so if nothing else, such a program at least exposes traps others have fallen into with case studies and such.
Trying to walk a Self-Employed Path WITH the theory taught in an MBA Program creates great challenges too...
- The same theory that can liberate one can trap one too.
- The singular ability to properly view and assess risk can often cripple an aspiring entrepreneur. Sometimes ignorance really is blissful and beneficial, especially when it is accompanied by some good fortune. "Paralysis by Analysis" is a syndrome often found in the over educated.
- This day in age, that's a heck of a debt to take on for knowledge or a piece of paper which might open doors that you may or may not want to walk through. The shear time and financial commitment alone can create stresses that work contra to the liberation one was seeking.
- As with any Graduate Degree, mental theory and mental processing is strengthened, and if an equal and opposite growth in the form of yoga, meditation, introspection or other balance is not pursued, one can get quite out of balance with the addition of voluminous amounts of mental theory.

- The information below is for general informational purposes only.
- We will not refer to the info below again specifically in this website.
- We find it interesting they specifically introduce database technology under the Accounting topic, and they include Ethics under Management.
- As you will come to realize, formal business learning has a lot of overlap and a lot of criss-crossing of concepts.
- Business really is much more of an "Art" than most people believe, and it flows with external and environmental changes which is in fact one reason why initial Mastery and long term Mastery is so illusive to many.
- Getting good at it is one thing, staying good at is an entirely different ball of wax.

From this list of Curriculum we can see that these Subjects generally align with those specified in FAMMMSOIT/bELS.
FAMMMSOIT/bELS gives slightly more resolution and differentiation, and we chose that as we feel it helps separate the big pile of items that falls into "Business Information Technology" better. It also highlights the "Operations" portion of Business more which most who are not operations oriented grossly overlook. It also separates out the Law, Ethics and Strategy from being confined to one of the primary subjects which is good since they are crossover ideas that affect all of these primary subject areas.
